For nearly seventy-five years the Black & White Committee has worked tirelessly to raise much needed awareness and funds for the blind and vision impaired children who utilise the services of Vision Australia.  Run by a team of volunteers the committee raises money by hosting many events such as:

• The Women of Achievement Luncheon.  Held annually in mid June, this event has for 25 years, celebrated inspirational women, who speak about their life, their career and what brought them to where they are now;

• The Black & White Ball, held annually in September or October is steeped in tradition and glamour.  From its early origins in the 1930s to the modern day, the Black & White Ball has been considered to be one of Sydney’s premier social events; and, 

• The Lifestyle Lunch, held in November is a celebration of modern life and joie de vivre.  It includes celebrity speakers, entertainments such as prominent singers and a fashion show.

Proceeds from each event are directed towards the Children’s Services of Vision Australia. Children without sight experience a range of problems including difficulty bonding with their parents, dependency and unemployment later in life. A child may not even develop the strength to brush its teeth or hold its head up without non-visual stimuli to encourage crawling and walking.  A range of support, counselling, therapy and training services are provided free of charge to children and their families.
